CellNaut

Explore life at the microscopic level

How the lessons are written

Every lesson is written in our own words from open textbooks, mainly OpenStax Biology 2e, and checked against the same sources. Each lesson lists its sources with their licenses and shows the date it was last reviewed, so you can see how current it is.

Each lesson opens with a short answer to its main question and closes with key takeaways and quick checks, so you can test what you learned.

Sources and licensing

Lesson text is original writing based on OpenStax Biology 2e (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0); no passages are copied. Some 3D models come from the NIH 3D Print Exchange under the licenses on their entry pages, and the other specimens are procedural models written for this project. The labelled teaching figures are simplified, AI-generated illustrations made for this project: they are not micrographs and not exact anatomy.

Accuracy and corrections

CellNaut is an educational project and is not medical advice. If you find an error, open an issue on GitHub naming the lesson and the correction; we update the lesson and its review date.
